Nuri Bhuiyan - From Form to Concept

Artist's Statement and Biography

As a multimedia designer and filmmaker, my work exists at the junction of architecture, brand, and lm. I address social, environmental, and cultural climates using the architectural language as my medium. The process of making is linear, additive, as well as circular and multidimensional, connecting events across time and space to reveal the connections between them. My work materializes identity and narrative through original design proposals for and careful visual treatment of our environments. Engaging spatial and psychological territories and thresholds to reveal our presumptions about our understanding of them and discern their true interrelationships, I direct the viewer to explore how we inhabit place and time. Moving between the analytical and the tangible, I seek to create space for new visions and a stronger, intentional, and adaptive built and media environment. The solo exhibition From Form to Concept at Kalakendra showcases the nature of design in evolution. Through selected academic and personal projects, I invite the viewer to see the different lives of an architecture project. An opportunity to step into my shoes as an architecture student and emerging designer, the exhibition is shaped by my conviction in architecture’s power to be both agent and inspiration, built and unbuilt. Observations of site and context research, sketches and concepts, and drawings and representations are the foundations of a proposal. At the same time, works existing in the world are dissolved into ideas, memory, and identity. Form unfolds from concepts, structure sublimates into ideas, and geometric and spatial relationships are means to achieve both the real and abstract. In my projects, architecture is drawn and redrawn, its stories documented and retold. The ‘result’ is yet another starting point, and the final stage is in fact what is imagined.

Nuri Bhuiyan

Nuri Bhuiyan is currently a Master of Architecture Candidate at the University of Pennsylvania. She graduated from Harvard University in 2022, where she received her B.A. in the History of Art and Architecture and a minor in Art, Film, and Visual Studies.
