Re See

The exhibition “RE SEE” presents a glimpse of Bangladeshi art practice spanning two decades—from 1975 to 1995—in an attempt to revisit the thoughts, sensibilities, and ways of life of that period. The exhibition features paintings, sculptures, printmaking, and mixed-media works that embody the artistic expressions of that era.

Rather than being based on any specific research or a formulated curatorial concept, the exhibition has been composed with works by fourteen artists who began their artistic journeys atier receiving formal art education in post-war Bangladesh. Some of them were associated with collectives such as Dhaka Painters, Somoy Group, or similar circles, while others pursued individual paths of exploration. Together, their collective presence offers a vivid and multifaceted picture of the art scene of that time.

“RE SEE” does not claim to present a complete or definitive portrait of a particular period. Instead, its purpose is to create an opportunity to view the art practices of that time from a renewed perspective and to prepare an open ground for future research and reflection.

The transformations in the social, political, and cultural landscape of post-independence Bangladesh—their influence on themes, subjects, and aesthetic language, as well as the impact of international trends, local art practices, and the artists’ own understandings—whether and how these were reflected in the art of that period, remain subjects for further discussion, analysis, and debate.
